So ive been looking and searching all day trying to find info about a BHAF for the 3ed gen CTD. i only found 2 pics and yes its in there but, are there any problems with room, rubbing, hood clearence, etc.......
I was looking at getting a Volant or S&B intake kit until i found the BHAF on a 3rd gen CTD. and im sure not putting down $400+ for an AFE or the like.
If anyone has any pics or input on this please let me know.
NOT looking for the big turbo whistle or stuff like that jsut more air and a little better MPG.
Ps anyone ever put one of those blue "cool hose" on?

The usual large paper BHAF fits, as I've been educated , but I guess there can be issues with it rubbing on your A/C Condenser line. They are just a disposable paper filter, but flow well.

Is the rubbing an issue on the 3rd gens or just the 2nd? I have heard of it on the 2nd gens. (not a 3rd gen owner)
There are alot of different mounting positions. HERE is the newest mounting of a BHAF on a 3rd gen that I have seen.

Not to jack this thread, but $400+ for any intake is wayyyy overpriced. I bought a polished AEM Brute Force CAI for my '06 and only paid $220 shipped. Check your prices and shop around......

The issue of rubbing on a condenser line is a problem with both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks. I agree that intake prices are insane. That is why a popular option is to retain your stock intake tube (already own it) and put a nice Nanofiber air filter on there rather than the stock airbox. This is a waaay cheaper option, and the Nanofiber filters are reusable without nickel and diming you with solvents and oils. Just blow out with 20psi of shop air and throw it back on.

I have a nanafiber filter sitting in my garage waiting to replace my BHAF. I like that it doesn't use oil and is reusable. We will see if it is better than the current filter. I am going to guess that it is.....time will tell.

im kinda stuck on weather to get the BHAF or the Nanofiber Amsoil. i have cut it down to those 2 but im just not sure 1) how the BHAF will look on my 06(i mean will it be like WOW when you open the hood and look TOO big)
2) I am sure i can get it in there, but is it going to be a pain of always checking to see if its messing anything else up
3) Is there any warranty voiding issues with either one of these?
4) im also ordering a blue "cool hose" from diesel power products

Dont want to hijack this thread, but Duluth, are there other filters that will fit this aplication other than the 4090. I have it, but have some interest in a larger diameter, higher CFM, filter, but still with a 4" inlet.
Please let me know-Thanks.

The main concern I personally have with the paper BHAF, especially forward mounted in a 3rd gen, is the chance of getting wet, especially in snow country with snow and road spray blowing up under the hood and melting with engine heat. Exposed paper elements don't like water too much. I always pondered the odds of an exposed paper element getting wet and barfing chunks into your turbo. Outerwears would help. And they are 40 to 60 bucks and you have to throw them away.
Longhorn, yes, there is a new Nanofiber model out that I do not have photos of that would flow more air. It is a oval cone filter, rather than the round cone 4090. Also, it is an inch longer than the 4090, and wider due to its oval cone design. Additionally, it has a 4.5 inch ID flange rather than a 4" flange. It will fit where a BHAF fits, flow more air (based on wide opinion that the 4090 easily meets or exceeds the AH19037 BHAF flow), and be resistant to moisture and reusable. It is the 4510 filter. PM me if you want pricing.

Has anyone performed an oil test with a Nano Fiber Filter to see what the silica ppm count is.
The synthetic filters (one has been tested) have a very good result.
If you can give the results of this Nano Filter I would be very interested.
Ditch the stock tube for a Cool Blue Silicone hose with reinforcement inserts.
