Maybe, maybe not. DW is a combination of any number of things. It'll be dumb luck if it does.

It's a safety recall though so who knows..

After some argument and me making a scene in their service department, they agreed to complete the work. Now I just have to wait for the parts to come in. Who knows how long that will take.

Good to hear it, I actually called and am too on the list because its a nationally backordered part.

My dealer won't even call me back! Time to look for another place.

For all you guys out there to save a trip to the local stealership. Get under your truck and have a look. N62 recall is left tie rod and it will only be replaced if your steering dampner is clamped on under center of truck. If it is a bolt holding the dampner right through the heavy artillery then it wont be replaced as that is the new style. Very noticeable and can save tou the headaches of sitting there waiting for em to come out with a nice list of everything else they"need" to charge you for. I just went through this and I already have the upgraded style in my 07. Brother in law has 04 and he got the recall but his is same as mine so no need to deal with it.

Got any pics of what you are talking about? Im pretty sure I have what you are talking about. I did get the recall notice and called but they don't have any parts available now.

Nice time saving advice, but slightly BACKWARDS--

if you have a through bolt that holds the steeering damper onto the track bar, then it is the OLD style "Y" type steering linkage that is NOT subject to the tie rod end recall.

The newer "T" type steering linkage, woth the damper attached with a clamp, MIGHT be subject to a recall depending on whether an newer updated TRE was installed with it or not.

Here is a pic, but PLEASE NOTE that the "bad" or "good" label does not mean that your steering linkage is good or bad, but ONLY refers to whether or not you should have the dealer look further into the situation, with "Bad" meaning needing more checking, and "Good" meaning "Good to go". Of course, if for some reason you cannot tell what you have, by all means go to the dealership and have it checked, but FYI--this is the pic that dealership mechanics are refering to.

I have the old style linkage and I am confused as to what the recall is for. It sounds to me like they installed some tie rods incorrectly on the new style linkage and/or the tie rods were bad?

I was thinking about updating to the 08.5 steering but should I hold off?

Holy hell people.

If you have the Tstyle linkage with the clamp on damper mount, go the dealership for the N62 recall.

If you have the Ystyle, it doesn't affect you, ignore it and move on.

Tstyle is on top.

Ystyle on left. Tstyle on right.

This is a Tstyle under my truck ("AF" version). Does yours look like this with the clamp on damper? If so, go do the N62 recall. If not, disregard.

Maybe you misunderstood what I was asking.

Were the tie rods bad or were they bad because of incorrect installation? Combination of both?

If I buy the steering upgrade from Mopar does it come with the bad tie rod? Hold off on the upgrade until it's sorted out?

07dan 01-28-2014 03:13 PM

The tie rod is bad but in the recall they actually replace the complete assembly. This came straight from dealer 3 days ago

co416r 01-31-2014 06:09 PM

I purchased the 08.5 steering upgrade about 8 months ago. I went today and had the recall completed. They replaced the entire set up today and did an alignment. So yes B52doc, I would say any of the 08 setups on ebay or other places could possibly be bad. Hopefully the mopar dealers would have the updated/post recall parts. The service writer told me to send in my receipts to Chrysler for the setup I bought 8 months ago and that I would be reimbursed. I'll believe it when I see it. By the way, it only took my dealer a week to get in the new parts.
