Shift knob

Who's switched out the shift knob with an aftermarket? Whats the options and how does the thing come off? I tried loosening it, twisting counter clockwise and it won't budge. Is the shaft threaded for regular aftermarket shift knobs? I hve found a few I like, but before I buy, I need to know...

I'm interested in finding out how the guys with the Eaton Fuller shifters did it. I had that idea well before I joined this forum and saw that other guys had already done it.

I've seen something on this, I believe you pop off the center piece and unscrew the knob. I think it has a metric thread. I haven't done a search, but i'm sure there is a thread on here about it.

Carefully pry off the shift pattern with 2 small screwdrivers. Then you need a 15mm deep socket to get the knob off. Sorry, its late and I cant remember the thread but it is metric.

I remember seeing a hurst knob in a speed shop - it was from a newer mustang and had the same thread and shift pattern as the 6 speed (NV5600 that is).

Tomeygun is making a kit that will let you use the SRT-10 shifter. He hasn't mentioned how the kits are coming along in a while. Check this thread: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/sh...ad.php?p=64048

Here is a pic of his shifter in 1st gear:

This is in reverse:

Looks like it moves it over a good bit.

Thanks AK

I have been quietly waiting for something to happen on this I would like a shifter bent towards the driver a bit but its not a "have to have" item so I dont make a big fuss about it. Its a someday item for me. Espeically if they are "floating" an MSRP of $200.00 plus bucks for that "special" handle.. Some sort of chip set up is higher on my wish list right now....
