Door wireing broken in rubber boot. No speaker and window
Hey guys. I'm sure a lot of you have heard about this problem before. I know a lot you just re splice the wires and solder them and your of. But that doesn't solve the problem as to why those wires broke in the first place. Is the wireing just not the right type of rubber for a lot of motion over the years or what? Is there a better wireing harness we can buy so that we don't run into the same problem down the road? I don't think my little soldering will solve the problem for good and buying and oem wireing harness would lead me into the same problem in a few years. Guys chime in with suggestions about improving the wireing for the doors. I have front window that doesn't allways work ad rear door speaker stopped working. I fixed the rear for now but want something better!

My brother just had the same problem with his 04.5 with the rear drivers door. Window went down then wouldn't go up and the speaker and door lock was inop. Looked at the wiring in the boot and was most all spilt wires. And they had been pieced back together buy the first owner. So my brother went and got a complete wire harness from another truck. Doesn't really help u out at all with a better fix but it is a crappy issue with these trucks.
yeah i want the after market to make a beefed up wireing harness so i dont run into the same problem down the road.

I think its the type of wire used,(too ridged) ford/chev/dodge all have the same issues, yet i have not personally ever seen an import (toyota for example) ever break the wiring, maybe try making your own harness with more supple wire

Been there! New wiring harnes was like a hundred bucks. A pack of shrinktube butt connectors buck ninty nine! Back in business! Good Luck!!
I have been doing your fix on the speaker, window and now the lock over the past 2 yrs and now I have no locks as of today - which of all the things that could go, the locks are not my preference.
It appears that the harness is throughout the entire door when the faulty parts are at the plug - any suggestions for a fix? I really dont want to get an entire harness.
How do the wires stay in the harness plug? Maybe it would be feasible to splice into the wires just inside the door and run new ones to the plug outside the door. Thoughts?

Dodge doors open too far. Wiring between the jams is too short. Wire they use is crap.
Get yourself some car audio speaker wire, cut out the crap sections of stock, replace with a piece 1/2" longer than what ya took out.
Speaking of which.......I need to go do it to my rear driver side door.......

I repaired mine not to long ago did both rear doors. just use some high quailty speaker wire. The wire they use in the doors is cheap wire the gets very brittle over time. Espeshally in the cold its quite frequent up here to see them break.

did you actually take all of the wires out of the plugs or did you splice them in somehow?
