Anyone Not Impressed with 08.5+ Steering Upgrade?

I just upgraded my 05 to the new 08.5+ Steering. I did all my research, and I have the newest Mopar part number with the newest pitman arm.

For the first time I have slight bump steer where before I never noticed any bump steer what so ever.

Don't get me wrong the new steering is a huge strength upgrade over the inverted Y, and I don't plan on going back.

I did however at the same time install much softer progressive springs, so maybe the axle is moving more than before and maybe that is causing the noticeable bump steer.

Ditto on the slight bumpsteer when initially installed. I got used to it quickly and the tradeoff of the constant toe-in during suspension cycling made it worthwhile.

I have the steering sitting in my garage and will be installing it soon. I have read on here that the new pitman arm is un needed if you have even a leveling lift. If you run it, it can cause interference, and bump steer.

Maybe try going back to your old pitman arm?

It depends on the truck really. When I installed the new steering I could really feel a good difference. Especially that I had no bump steer.

Now, after 2yrs and 16k miles, the new steering doesn't seem as impressive as it once was. I feel some bump steer.

The truck still wanders like a boat so I guess that is my steering box.

I have done the steering box and the linkage upgrade in the last 50k. I noticed an improvement at first.

I am now thinking that I have to go to an aftermarket track bar and maybe new control arms. I have the clunking when making slow tight turns and long hair pin turns at 25 mph.

It is always something.

I installed the upgraded steering as well and notice more bump steer. I recently replaced my worn out sway bar end links with Maxxlinks and it eliminated by bump steer. I was very surprised it did but hey I'm not complaining.

Know that I think about it, I do remember reading something about having a leveling kit and using the stock pitman arm.

It should be that if the length and angle of the track bar and drag link are equal, then there should be zero bump steer. I'll climb under there and take some measurements.

I am very impressed at how solid the steering feels. New track bar and box brace along with the 08.5+ kit made a big difference.

i have the steering upgrade and had bumpsteer with a leveling kit, and a thuren track bar. i just put new springs (got rid of the leveling kit) sway bar end links, control arms are on the way, and a fox steering stabilizer. no more bumpsteer, i think it is directly related to the stock stabilizer i had a rancho on mine (junk bottom line) after 20000 miles it was so soft and wouldnt even extend.

get a good track bar and stabilizer and you'll be golden

Can someone point point out what steering was replaced under warranty by Dodge? I have a problem checking online about the recalls. And I need new tierod ends, all the joints are junk. I have the stabilizer that bolts through the tierod not the one with the clamp if this helps anyo.e.

You have the one that wasnt recalled. You will have to do the update because I do not believe you can get the TRE's anymore.
