2500 SWB to 3500 LWB Dually
Like the title says, anyone done it? I know, sell the 2500 and buy a 3500, prob is, I'm original owner, it has 90K on it and I don't want to buy someone elses junk. Not to mention we just put nearly 5K in it in upgrades. Not a big deal now but in the future I would like to get a good sized 5er and do not want to deal with the swb.
I've looked at frame extensions etc, but I'd really rather have the stock setup. So I'm thinking frame swap? Maybe buy one from a wrecker that had an engine fire? Buy the frame and dually rear and springs etc. Also need the fuel tank and driveshaft etc. Anything else I'm forgetting?
I'm planning on looking out for parts, but I'm in no hurry, I'm also planning on building an ally flatbed to accept my pop up slide in so I can swap out when the big trailer isn't needed.
I have been offered a 5er at "an incredible deal" so we'll see. The plan was to lv the 2500 as is and buy a '12 3500 LWB dually but I don't like the new emssions stuff and the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ payment.
So is this even feaseable? I know it'll be a major pita and take prob a week to do but if everything is there, I don't see any issues? Just unbolt and rebolt? Will need to get the truck GCVWR changed somehow after the swap.
Thoughts?
