Air pressure/load range in aftermarket tires

We all know that we shouldn't be replacing our tires with load range D tires like the BFG all terrains right? I got a decent deal on my 3500 srw because the previous owner had a load range D BFG A/Ts and had a blow out which did a number on my quarter panel. Air pressure probably had something to do with it as well
Anyway, when i got my hands on the truck it had nearly new cooper discoverer STTs and i want them to last. i just did my second 5,000 mile rotation and i was wondering What kind of tire pressure should i be running for every day driving, or towing/hauling. do i still follow the factory recommendations?

what size tires are you talking about? If they are stock sized go by the air pressures recomened on the door. If they are larger than stock, when they are COLD fill them to max, see how they ride and wear from there, then when they are cold, adjust them in 5lb increments.

info inside door post is MAX loaded truck, I found the best pressure to be 50 frt, 40 rear, tires wear evenly/ ride is really good. If your hauling any amount of weight. you will have to air up.

another method is get some chalk (kind kids play with) run a couple inch wide marks across the face of the tire, drive forward back wards a 100 feet of so, inspect to see how much chalk remains, air up or down to get the chalk to wear off, if you get it within 1inch of the edge of the tire you hit the optium tire pressure.

I hauled freight in the bed of my truck for a living used to run 50psi 60 front, weight ranged fro 100-2400lbs, but it was all short haul with in city limits, when I went hiway I would air up

running 35s on 18in rims. i've been doing pretty much the same as nick g 50psi front and 40 and up in the rear. max inflation is 65 but i don't intend to see that unless i'm towing heavy on the highway.

I'm running stock tire size & load range and I also find these pressures to be about right when running empty.
