I picked up a 2006 RAM 2500 5.9L a couple months ago. Overall I love this truck, but now that the temps are getting cooler it has dash noise that's becoming more frequent.
I can't stand this noise. It sounds like an angry squirrel- sort of a squeaky clatter noise that comes from the driver's side dash. Almost like it's from the column or cluster. If I even lightly grab the dash molding that is above the instrument cluster the noise stops. I'm assuming it's either that piece, or something that's attached to it.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or have any ideas about how do fix the problem. I'd hate to start pulling apart the dash since I have no idea what a squeak "looks like" and I can't get it to make the noise the unless I'm driving. Any ideas about what might actually be making the noise or how to stop it would be very appreciated.
just made a similar post like this a mins ago, bcuz im having the same problem.

My passenger door card did the same thing, I found the spot where it was rubbing on the door and put a little grease on it and it stopped thank god. usually with plastic trim pieces this won't work, but this was plastic on metal. Grab the suspect area and try to recreate the vibration to pinpoint it. Disassemble and see if the clips are worn, try bending tabs back so they will apply more pressure so they will hold better. If that don't work put some cloth or neoprene behind the piece to space it out to prevent contact.

I had an Airdog installed recently and since then mine makes a noise in the driver side dash. It gets louder as RPM's get higher and changes tone as the truck shifts

Ok- I didn't feel the motivation to take the dash apart to try and track this down, but I think I may have stopped the noise- so far so good anyway.
There is a small gap between the top of the clear lens (that covers the cluster) and the top section of the dash. As a temporary fix I wedged some felt pads in that gap (one in each corner) and left about half of the pad sticking out- so it didn't get pushed through and fall behind the lens. It doesn't look great but if my noise is actually gone, I'll find something better to use. Right now I can see a small half-moon of the felt pad from the drivers seat but it doesn't block the view of any gauges.
The pads I used where called sliders. I think they are for under chair legs, etc. The package came with several sizes so I found the one that would both fit and be very tight. I left the backing on so it wasn't sticky...(put the sticky side out so if it comes off you're not sticking the pad to the lens).
I'll update this if my noise comes back and this wasn't a fix or if/when I find a better way to tighten up that area. If you have any ideas of how to accomplish the same thing but that doesn't make the little felt pad visible, I'd love to hear any ideas. I'm just happy the angry squirrel sound seems have stopped.

"....the Cummins diesel is the best of the big 3, but it comes wrapped in a Dodge truck."
I had a knocking noise from somewhere in my dash on my 07 CTD and took it to the dealer. It was the tranny oil dip stick hitting the fire wall, they just bent it a bit and I have not had a noise problem since. Good luck.
My 06 does the same thing. My noise is center of the dash only when it's cold out. I can't find where it's coming from and I've spent many days pushing on different places to see if the noise stops but no luck yet. It only happens when Im in gear sitting still. It drives me crazy...
