Hey Guys, Just bought a new 03 3500 QC. Someone...or whatever reason cut the factory 7-Way connector off and "wired up" a 5-Way. And by "wired up" I mean ruined. They cut the wiring harness off at, where I would assume, normally there would have been some sort of connector.
I have spent two hours now searching various forums, and staring at the Dodge "Wiring Diagram". And by "Wiring Diagram" I mean pile of garbage. I have had dozens of cars from various manufacturers over the years, and this is easily the worst wiring diagram I have run across...maybe I am missing something.
The "Spit" in the harness has twelve wires total, two going into a small "harness" which goes into the tailgate lights. I am left with ten cut wires, with unknown purposes.
Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I would be incredibly grateful. I really would like to figure out the function of these wires, I need to put the 7-Way back in the truck. Normally I would just start with the multimeter, but since there are 10 wires, not 7, I don't want to get anything mixed up.
I suggest looking into a replacement wiring harness. Weigh the $100 or so (last time I priced them at the dealership for my '03 1500) with the value of your time to figure it all out and the headache you'll have when one or more of the 10 (!) spices goes bad. It's all plug and play (at least for the 1500) so you don't have to worry about which wires do what.

Just an observation but I swear they look like speaker wires to me. All you really can do at this point is to use a ciruit tester and firgure oure out what wire does what. Example: left turn signal blinking, find a wire at the rear that activates intermitantly. Then you can buy a seven way socket and wire it right. Brown=running, green=right turn, yellow=left turn, white=ground, etc.. Better double check me as I've a had a few toddys but you get the idea.

I think if mine was that messed up I would just buy the new harness. I would see a lot less grief in your future!
It never amazes me what people will do to wiring! For the Original owner it would have been far easier, and cleaner to build a 7 pin to 5 pin adapter.

none of those colors really match up on the dodge harness...your best bet is to either replace the harness like suggested (if thats possible, im thinking its in the main trunk harness that controls everything) or to use the dodge factory wiring diagram to tell you whats what. And even that is a PITA.....
If you need it, PM me and I can send you the pdf of the wiring
