Gauge Cluster Issues

Hoping someone on here may have had the same problem as I am having with my truck, or at least could give me some advice on where to start looking for the cause.

-Truck is a 06 2500 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 CTD

Occasionally the entire gauge cluster shuts off while the truck is running. All gauges and display ceases to function with the exception of the odometer/tripmeter. It will then turn back on the same way it would normally when you turn the key on to start the truck. The truck runs and drives normally when this happens. It sometimes goes back to functioning normally instantly, other times will stay off for a couple minutes.

- There are no modifications to this truck, it is completely stock. The only exception is a dealer installed Mopar remote starter.
- It seems to be worse when it is warmer out, above about 70 F.
- Truck has around 65 k on it.

Thanks for any insight!

The clusters in general in the 06's were pretty craptacular. Usually the tach just starts spinning around and doing what ever it wants to. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one totally phase out like that, but it wouldnt surprise me. Have you ever had problems with your tach initially?

No, this is actually the very first issue I have had with this truck and I have owned it for 6 years.

the only other issue I see at times with clusters shutting off is usually ignition switch problems. Occasionally brought on by having large key chains or a large amount of keys hanging from the ignition.

Well I think I figured it out....maybe. I was screwing around trying to make the gauge cluster go out, and found that if I cycled the tilt steering up and down it would act up almost every time. Looking like a loose connection or a bad wire in the harness. Will have to take it apart later and have a look.

Similar intermittent problem with my 06.

Turn signal don't work sometimes if the steer column is adjusted to its lowest position.

Seems to have corrected itself for the past 4 months or so....knock on wood..

I have an 03 same issue, been going on just over a year now. Seems that mine is an issue at colder tempreatures, 60 or below. It usually only happens at start up, happens in random intervals but quickly comes back to life after shutting down, with in a second. Sometimes it does it once a sometimes 3 or 4 times, other times not at all. I had my first driving issue with it 2 months ago coming out of a canyon, early AM and temprature on the overhead was in the mid 40's if I remember correctly, on and off 4 or 5 times. I just had my second issue while driving tonight, scared the hell out of me when all the light died, did it twice. I was just outside looking around started it and let it idle for a few minutes and it just kept doing it for 3/4 minutes at random...It's starting to drive me nuts!!

It has never done anything noticable to driveability, engine continues to run as normal with out a hick up....

Did you ever find any resolution to your issue?
