Wow...thought it would be better!!

I bought my truck about a month ago now. When I bought it, the liar-meter for the MPG's read 12.5. I reset it everytime I fill the tank, and it usually settles arount 15.5-16 mpg. I KNOW thats wrong, cause I usually only get about 350-400 miles per tank of 30 gallons. Whats up with that!?!? Im very conscientous on how I drive it, try to keep the RMP's under 2K to better the mileage, but doesnt seem to help. I have a cold air intake and smarty jr on order, but everything is stock at the moment, with the exception of the lift and exhaust in my sig. Could there be something wrong somewhere??

Yeah, your tire size... your speedo and odometer are off.

Depending on your gear ratio, those larger meats are not necessarily helping you out. The overhead mpg reading is less than accurate in stock form... with mods it just gets worse.

Programmer will help a little bit if you can keep your foot out of it. The tire size correction will also help. You are going a little bit further per tank than indicated right now. Getting that corrected will give you more accurate readings. Forget about tracking mileage with the overhead, mine is off most of the time and it is not really consistent either way. If you are driving in town with a lift and big tires and wheels with a MC and a stock automatic, 12-13 mpg sounds about right.

4" lift with 35's on 20's? and you're complaining about 15-16mpg? granted, it's probably more like 13-14mpg.

You're driving an 8000+lb truck that's lifted with big tires. What did you expect? 20mpg like all the liars at the fuel pumps say they get?

I wish it was 15-16!! Thats just what the overhead says....actually 12-13 handcalculated! Guess I'll see what the intake and tuner does, then I can adjust for my tire size too!

when I bought my 06 it had a replacement bumper and 33's on 20's. I drove it from Dallas to Houston driving normal... 80-85mph or so... I got a hand calculated 14mpg. I loaded the Smarty on level 5 and prompty drove up to Lawton, OK and I got 16mpg hand calc'd.

I wouldn't expect the intake to do anything, but a programmer will certainly help...

I loved my mega cab, but it definitely loved fuel

With 35" tires vs stock tires you're probably a little over 10% off your mileage.

I know with my stock tires I was right at 2K at 60 and now with 315/70s I'm right at 70 at 2K.

But I thought my mileage would be better also. My best hand calculated has been 18.5 but I usually get 16 or 17

With a lift and 35s, your mpg sounds pretty normal. What does the overhead say at a steady 65mph if you reset it? How many miles are on your air and fuel filters?

If I reset the overhead going 65 down the freeway, it will consistently stabilize about 17-19MPG. The air filter is brand new, although I have a brand new S&B sitting in the garage awaiting install. Not sure about the fuel filter.....guess I can just buy one and put it in!!

you have a mega cab which is a very heavy truck, then you lifed it and are running 35inch tires, what do you expect?

My buddy has a quad cab 4x4, ctd with an auto tans, he has a leveling kit, 35's, cai, stock exhaust and a smarty jr... we got 15mpg the other day hand calculated pulling a small trailer 200 miles on the interstate.

I would change the fuel filter now if you have no idea how old it is. The fuel filter should be changed at least every 15,000 miles. I change mine every 10,000 miles.

with others do NOT go off overhead lie-a-meter, b/c i was. mine was reading 23.5 to 24 mpg when hand calculated best i've got is 20.2 mpg bt avg. 18.5 to 19.4 and mine is completely stock. so i would say you are doing going with your mods.
