compressor mounting locations

Just trying to see where people have mounted their compressors. I live in Alaska so there is alot of dirt and moisture that I am concerned about. I will be using the compressor for a pacbrake, horns and would like to use it for an accessory tank when needed. Its a 150psi, the tank I am thinking about putting underneath, but would like inputs on where a good place to mount the compressor would be. I have a shell on the top and was actually thinking about mounting it in the bed. Just mainly use the bed for camping trips with the kids/dog so it being in the way is not really a concern. Any thoughts?

I mounted my Pac Brake compressor up on the engine the way their directions say to install it. Some have mounted them vertically next to the radiator, and some have removed the fender liner on the pass side and mounted the compressor tucked up in that area. You can see that type of install if you go to BD's website and download their compressor install instructions. I mounted my tank on the outby side of the frame rail right about where the drivers seat is. I have mud flaps and dirt that is thrown back below them hits further back more toward the mid way point of the rear doors under that area. You could fab up a shield to protect the tank from the elements easily, or even put it inside the frame rails, depending on the tanks size, there is room. MY air horn is under the front bumper, it is a fairly protectd place. I also used plastic wire loom protector around my air lines and wire harnesses just to add a layer of protection.

The big thing is this:

- If it's an oiled compressor, mount it upright.
- If it's an oilless compressor, mount it any way you want, but know that upside-down isn't recommended as heat rises (and won't dissipate quite as well as in other orientations).

Mount it anywhere it fits, anywhere you feel comfortable mounting it. If there's a lot of dirt and moisture, mount it somewhere it will be safe from that.
