Bilstein 5100's

Can you really tell a difference in the ride using bilstein 5100's, I'm going to level my truck and was thinking about putting bilstein on the front and back. How are they for towing? Can you use the 5100's on the back as well?

I installed 5100s after levelling (2007), takes a bit of the harshness out of the ride, especially sharp bumps and rough roads. Don't get me wrong though, the ride is still rough. Towing is fine, no issues.

I understand its not going to ride like a dream, but it has to be an improvement over the stock shocks.

Yes, it's an "improvement" to a point and a difference from stock shocks can be felt. The truck will still bounce but you'll feel the difference in how it rebounds for lack of a better word. I think the difference is really felt when going a moderate speed over bumpy roads. When going slow, you'll still bounce your kidneys. But going faster, the truck kinda tip toes or skips right over.

Considering the 5100s were geared for an offroad environment, it makes sense this is where they'd perform better.

I ran stock shocks on my 06 after doing a 2" leveling kit. After i put on the Bilstein 5100's i could tell a big difference. Like most have said, mostly at medium speeds over bumps.

It rebounds a lot better due to the longer travel and your shocks not being over extended.

Still rides a little rough tough, not near as bad as stock shocks.

Bilstein 5100s offer much improved performance at a great price. They are not a top of the line shock, but for the money, can't be beat. The stock shocks are utter junk, as with GM and Ford.

I run them primarily on road, and about 20% of the time I'm either hooked to a 15k GVWR g'neck dump trailer or have two 1,500 lb totes in the bed (3k).

Around 10% of my driving is on farm tracks/ fire roads and the shocks have held up great for 40,000 miles. I'll probably change them at 50k to be sure, but you could likely get double that out of them.

To make clear, low speed ride you won't notice too much of a difference. But stability/body control is far improved at highway speeds, you can feel far less wallow as the shocks bring everything under control after hitting dips.

Thanks for this thread. I've been considering the 5100's for a while, but there has been mixed reviews. Any opinions on them are appreciated!
