Front end noise

While driving my truck about 25mph through town I noticed a clicking noise almost like a rock stuck in the tire tread. It also feels rough and kinda growls sometimes when you come to a slow stop or drive away slowly from a stop, you can feel it slightly in the steering wheel. Not all the time though, just once in a while. It is def coming from the front end. I jacked it up and pulled on the front wheels top to bottom and the driver side had a little bit of play but the passenger side was tight. How much play is acceptable? I figured the bearing was bad but the clicking sound has me thinking axle u-joints. I Guess it could be both? Any suggestion? Thanks!

SOunds like Axle joints to me as well. You may not be far of from needing balljoints on you drivers side either.

sounds like a wheel bearing, and you should replace axle u joints while your at it.

you can jack up the front of the truck and firmly push and pull on the top and bottom of the tire, and if there is any play thats a good sign of a dry/worn bearing.... Good luck buddy!

Yes,
But you have to pull the hub bearing assemblies which can be anywhere from easy to borderline impossible. It is worse if your truck has ever seen salt or lots of damp climate.
