Lie-O-meter not that bad?

Well I've been hand calculating my mpg lately on my '07 and so far, I've learned that my overhead mpg isn't that bad. If I reset it exactly when I reset the odometer (before I pull away from the pumps) and don't touch it until I refill, it's been CONSISTENTLY .5 mpg high. Which is okay with me, I just subtract the .5 mpg. Six times in a row, it has been exactly .5 mpg high. Seems like a pretty good record to me. I think that the problems with the lie-o-meter come because people don't reset it at the same time they reset the odometer?

the mods you have the more optimistic the meter becomes, ie: a edge EZ on high will instantly add 4 mpg on the meter

It depends for me. In town its pretty darn close (+ or - .3), but on the highway it says I'm getting 25mpg at 75 mph. I sure wish I was, but its usually between 20 and 21.

Truck is stock other than K&N drop in.

mine is all over the place, its been up to 5 or 6 high to almost right on. I think the more miles you drive without resetting it the more accurate it is. A good friend of mines dad has on '01 and I know its hard to believe but he hasnt reset it in years, the truck has over 150k on it and reads about 15mpg all the time, it never moves anymore. And when hand calculating the milage it comes out to about 15.

mine is within .4 to .6 to hand calculated mileage. i don't ever touch it though and it stays consistant.

I think that resetting it in the middle of your hand calculation is the reason they get such a bad wrap for being off. I use mine exactly like I hand calculate. Fill up, reset the odometer, reset the avg mpg reading. Drive however many miles, fill up, divide the miles/gallons then reset the odometer and avg mpg and it has been exactly .5 high every time. If you reset it during the trip, it's going to be reading different miles than what your pump calculations will.

I too have found through hand calculating that my overhead display is fairly close to actual mileage

It bounces around a bit after a reset mine settles in at 17 to 18 mpg city/hiway combined

This truck beats the hell out of my Ford F-150, I can't get that dang thing over 14mpg even easy driving on the hiway. City driving with the ford gives me around 10 mpg, and we have to get emission tested every year and my ford passes with flying colors each time so it's tune is not the reason for such poor fuel mileage

I reset mine as soon as the truck is running after refueling, I am consistantly off by 2litres/100km (guessing around 3-4 mpg) when I am driving like an old lady and trying to maximize my fuel economy. However, if I beat the piss out of the truck and drive like a madman, the fuel economy doesnt really change but the lie o meter is closer to being right.

I use the same procedure @ refuel time of resetting everything.
I have been tracking it with every fill up for the last 8 or so tanks and the closest mine has been is 12% high with the worst being 28% high.
The average with all the fill ups I have been tracking is 21% high.
