Finally found a quiet exhaust combo no drone.

I tried a few different 4" exhaust combinations like stock cat no muffler, turbo back mbrp, silverline and magnaflow. And all of them had some sort of drone and was too loud for my liking. I never got the chance to try the donaldson or nelson so I can't comment on them however I came across a hushpower and I had previously bought a FTE resonator. So today I had the hushpower AND the FTE resonator put on and wow the truck is very quiet. No drone whatsoever. In fact it has a very nice deep sound to it and sounds much better than any of the previous ones I tried. It doesn't sound like a 3rd gen. Its basically deep no drone and not loud. Its so quiet that when driving almost all the noise is road noise/vibration coming from the tires.

-My neighbors will be very happy
-My ole lady will want to ride in the truck again.
-I wont' become deaf by the time I'm 41.
-cops won't give me dirty looks
-I don't have to turn the stereo up so damn loud.
-I can actually hear myself think

The Flo-Pro muffler I bought for my 06 is very quiet also. Too quiet actually so I went back to straight pipe but for someone who wants a good flowing and barely louder than stock sound I would suggest looking into Flo-Pro. The muffler was $100 by the way.

Sooooo, why didn't you just leave the stock exhaust on it? Seems like a waste of time and money to me...

You'll like it. My engine is much louder than my exhaust after installing the M090544 51" Donaldson.

i have a factory exhaust less the cat. it is quiet and i like it, especially with my 6" intake, it really whistles. i'd much rather listen to my turbo than exhaust. i am looking to put a quiet, better flowing muffler though. been looking at the 4040 Aero. but i dont know yet.

I don't get competing with the engine noise to converse. I did that for eight years with my '98.5 w/Jardine 4". Paul Fox @ Defiant spliced in a Shuttleworth diesel muffler on my '07 and all is Kosher. Throatier, freer flowing and best of all, a quiet cab.

the factory muffler is very restrictive

replacing it will reduce EGTs and open it up. easy in easy out with the air is key on a diesel.

the factory muffler, let me try and paint a pic in your mind...with words....

its is basicly 3 chambers wiit tubes going from one to the next. the air flow makes several 90* turns inside the muffler before exiting the muffler. it goes in top left, across into the next chamber makes a 90* threw next tube then another 90*.........the tubesw inside the muff are prob 1 1/2"

the aftermarket ones are pretty much str8 threw and not restrictive.

I just got my hushpower and need to order my cat delete pipe so i can install everything

here's an idea put up some sound clips. I have a 4" silverline turbo back exhaust. I like it it's gotta nice tone to it but only when the turbo lag kicks out. but would be nice to hear some of ya'lls exhaust notes
