I have an '03 Quad Cab long bed and I really like the Mega Cab. Is it even remotely possible to do a cab swap and put the Mega cab on my truck? I realize with my long bed it would be too long with the Mega Cab on the truck so frame work would be needed, but is the swap possible?
Any thoughts?

It would basically be like stretching the frame to put a long box on a mega cab youd just have to unhook all the electrical and what not then pull the cab off and place the other on in.
You will need to stretch it 20.25 inches. Thats what we had to do on my longbox conversion.
By the time ur done it would probably be cheaper to buy a mega.

You could probably buy just the cab and the shorter bed. Then sell your old cab and old bed.
Dont know what you would do with the VIN in the front window though....

Thanks for all the thoughts and replies! Yeah, I'll have to do some more research, but like it was said, it may turn out cheaper just to buy the Mega Cab.
Thanks again!

one other thing to keep in mind is from 03 to 06 a lot changed. They changed the communication systems so you'll either need swap harnesses and possibly dash from your 03 to the mega or completely change the whole electrical system and engine, it all depends on what is available from the donor megacab.
If the 03 is still good, I'd really suggest selling it and putting it toward the mega.

Yeah, I thought about the electrical crap that will all be different, and I was thinking that maybe I could take my whole interior and put it in the Mega Cab (i.e. my whole dash with all components including the VIN, my Lie-O-Meter on the ceiling, etc.). That way, it will basically be my truck, just with different metal around it.
I have been doing some research and I have found a few cabs for relatively cheap ($3000 - $6000 depending on damage). Assuming I could get a cab for $4500 (hypothetically), then have the frame extended by Precision Bodyline in Utah for about $5000, if I do the other work myself, I would still be under $10K. That's still way cheaper than a whole new truck. I know there will end up being a ton of little things I'm not considering right now, so that will probably make the price climb.
This is mostly just day dreaming and hypotheticals, but it seems like it would be do-able. I'll probably think a bit more about this, then end up scrapping the idea and just buy the truck.
Thanks for the thoughts and input, I really appreciate it.
