reverse lights

Hey guys
I would of put this in technical place but i do not have access it it.

My question is how do i hook up lights that will come one when i put my truck in reverse. Do i got to put a wire in my fuse panel or what?

Or is it just better to run them off a toggle switch

Easy to just tap into the reverse wire.

Easy way is to take the tail light off and look at the power cable, trace it down and tap into it for your power and you backup light will come on auto when the truck is put in to Reverse

There are adapters to tie into trailer wire harness if you have it. If not and you use powerful lights you can tap reverse wire to control a relay that is fed by battery.

I ran mine off a switch in the cab, so when I am working behing my pickup at night I can just leave them on without having to kill the engine.

If you're adding some back up lights just tapping into the factory wiring will not give you enough current cuz of the fine gauge of the wiring, whatever lights you hook up will be very dim, best to use a relay like shown above.
I used a 3 way switch, 1 pos'n to come on automatically when I put it in R, 1 pos'n off and the third pos'n on manually so I can have them on when the trucks running, handy when hooking or unhooking a trailer.

Yup, I tried that too on my old Ford, they were only about 50% the total brightness compared to when I added the relay.
