if you do a search on fuel tank vent you will find a recent post. those are tank vents and guys here are installing a piece of hose along with a canister type fuel filter hanging off the end to keep contaminates out of the tank. I just discovered mine thanks to that post. not one of Dodges finer moments.

Idealy they would have some fuel line with a one way vent on them. Dodge didnt bother. Like stevek said you can run some hose off of them and either find a vent or just use a inline fuel filter (pretty cheep at auto parts stores) just keep the crud out.

Thanks for the replies, I was surprised to see the vent like that, especially since the truck has been in some water. I thought dodge new better.

When those two little vents get clogged up the entire fuel system becomes pressurized and the truck runs like crap. We were chasing ghosts on a friends truck for days until we read up on the vents getting clogged

There is another one at the front of the tank, under the cab.

You can buy the extreme duty or heavy duty filter kit from Dodge. Forgot exactly the term but I put it on mine. It had the open barbs and installed it in a matter of like 10 min. Just slipped it on the openings, ran the tub, tied up the "filter" and that was it. I wanna say it wasnt much for the kit. Maybe like $40?
