I did it once...drove from Durango back to Greeley via 285 and then drove to Boulder to work and back 3 days before I had to fill it back up. I was so shocked, I took pics of the odom and the overhead for proof. I'll have to see if I can find them. I think the final number was something like 717 miles with the needle bringing the dummy light on.

Haven't done it since.

Oh, and to answer the thread question:
557 (last fillup, temps in the 40's-50's)
452 (next towed an 18 foot HTT home over 3 passes) I don't think i was empty on this fill up...
634 (next was temps in the 60's)
630 (next was temps in the mid 60's - 70's)

I'm in the same "wondering why my mileage sux so bad boat". I intentionally babied this thing last tank so I could see what I could get. 90% of my driving is highway and I kept it at 72 mph max (about 1950 rpm) the whole tank. Squeezed 475 out of it. Hand calculated to 15.3 mpg. That sux. I average around 14 driving 80-85+ "my normal driving style". For the short gain I'll go back to enjoying myself. The truck runs perfect with lots of power. My buddy's 05 claims to get 18-20 all the time. He also tries to keep around that 2000 rpm range when on the highway. I don't get it.

I drive 95% plus highway and do 60-65 mph and have 37's. my speedo is off ten mph at 60 mph. I use my pmt to know how fast I'm really going because I don't have the speedo gear in my tranny corrected to tell my computer how fast I'm really going. truck says I'm getting 500-525 a tank. my pmt is set to extreme. so I'm really getting more out of a fill up than my truck says

Oh and i call bs to 700 miles on a tank.
There is a large fuel expansion hump (think big air pocket) located on the rear of stock tanks. This prevents complete filling of stock tanks. Also depending on how long you take to fuel and how level the ground is the amount of fuel the tank will take can vary.

With a fuel tank vent modification relocating the tank vent to the top of this expansion area, a stock "34" gallon tank will hold a little over 40 gallons. That is fueling til you see fuel up at the top of the neck with the vent mod.

Getting only 17.5 mpg you could get 700 miles on one complete tank (with the vent mod and running it til near empty). Under good conditions and reasonable driving most folks can get close to 20 mpg or slightly higher on the highway. 700 is definitely possible if you run tank close to empty. Also keep in mind the low fuel lights comes on when there are still 7-9 gallons left in the tank.

I have seen 700 out of a tank before. If i top it off and do all highway driving under 2k rpms i can get about 700 - 750 out of a tank. This is of course not pulling a trailer.

I have topped off in Amarillo and made the trip to San Antonio which is 500 miles. When i get there i have 3/8ths of a tank left. If i get it above 2k rpms the mileage goes down considerably.
