If you have the stock one might as well put it in. Only takes a few minutes and some dealers look for any excuse to void your warranty.

Notice you have a BD, you running CL? How is your tranny doing (assuming it's an auto).
You have gauges? If not it might be a good idea.

If your filter filters as well as or better than stock I would not worry about it. If you dont know the filtration efficiency of the filter, and you can not find out what it is, I would worry. Some filters increase flow volume at the cost of decreasing filtering efficiency.

Some after market air filters do let in more dust than stock, just make sure you have a quality filter that is proven to filter more than stock and you should be fine. other than that, higher flowing intakes could actually increase the life of the turbo and engine because of less stress and lower egt's. my two cents.

These could become infamous last words! "Just an intake" could end up costing you $10,000.

If you really want to find out just how good your intake filter is . . do an oil sample the next time you change your oil.

I do one with every oil change. Since I change my own oil, I am saving some money, so I spend a little of what I save on a sample.

I have noted right from the start, the filtering capability of the stock air filter. Then I went to an Amsoil drop in, better filtering and my oil sample ws proof that I had better filtering. When I installed the Ice Box intake, I also am using an Amsoil filter but I added a pre-filter, again even better filtering, and my oil samples prove it.

If somewhere down the line in my 100K warranty a dealership or even Chrysler wants to argue about my aftermarket intake - I have all my sampling records and can easily prove to them that my intake is better than their stock box. I can also prove that I have done good maintenance, in fact excellent maintenance. I have installed an oil bypass to further taking care of my engine more correctly than the basic stock filter.

I DO get the play you pay stuff, some play too much and then have unrealistic expectations about getting repairs for free when their playing has been at the root of their issues, but I also get that good lab testing can prove your aftermarket product is every bit as good as or even better than stock. While I might have to argues some with them, maybe even pay out of pocket if my argument gets me nowhere with them, when all is said and dome my lawyer WILL see to it that I get a lot more out of them in the end.

Where do you send your oil samples to for testing?

I buy my sampling kits from Geno's - Monitor Labs - Fleetguard. My closest lab is in Houston. They have several labs all over the US. I take my sample, drop it in the mail using a priority mailer instead of just putting the label on the sample and mailing it. Oil samples are viewed as hazmat substances, so they get handled very differently, priority gets it there in 2 days. Then you log onto their site, using your sample number, you can pull up your sample information. They also mail you a hard copy. They have been great to deal with, timely information.

There are several companies that do oil testing. Blackstone Labs is another good company.

Besides being an excellent backup to owner maintenance, oil sampling gives you a heads up to leaky injectors WAY before you start making oil. All of my reports have shown the fuel in oil >.05% which is the level that really says I have no problem whatsoever. Wear metals also gives you data about break-in and overall wear, it you see them rising then you know you have things going south - advance indicators are always good information.
