Painting the valve cover

I have seen some pics of people who have painted their valve covers, and I would like to do the same. Any advice/tips? I assume that I will have to take it off to paint it.

Slk

I painted mine & I used several thin coats of paint on mine.

I removed the cover....

Taped up the identification markings...

Lightly sanded....

Sprayed (I think) 5 light coats of paint....

Once completely dried, I installed it back on the truck....

Here's a pic of mine painted to match my truck....[IMG][/IMG]

And another...[IMG][/IMG]

That looks awesome!

Did you tape off the Cummins C?

Did you use spray paint for it? I was thinking that I may have to hand paint it.

This may sound like a dumb question, but I don't know. When the cover is removed, does it expose everything?

Since it is plastic, I was hoping that it was more for decoration than protection.

Yeah, I used plastic-cote engine paint on mine, see garage for pic, I've redone it since then but It will give you an Idea. I painted the whole thing blue first, then put grease on the C, and shot the rest in red with the ID tags taped off.

the cover is just a cover cover. it is only there for decoration. just make sure you remove the filler plug before you try to pull it off. the plug holds the cover on if it is still there..

Thanks cumminsmannow. I took it off this morning, and started painting. Hopefully it turns out good.

Got it painted! Hardest part was taping off what I didn't want to paint, and being patient. :fist:

Pictures are in "My Garage"
