Ok, now don't laugh at my mock up.. This is my first time doing something like this. Hopefully when it is all done it will look as good as what others have done here.
I am still working on the corner, I think when I buy the steel I will know what to do when it starts to come together.
What would you all recommend 3/16 or 1/8 steel plate.
For the mounting brackets I was thinking 1/4 steel..
Feel free to let me know if I am making any mistakes.

What would be the best thing to do when welding on the truck?
Will I be safe just disconnecting the batteries. Or what I was thinking was to isolate the bumper from the frame like using wood as temporary brackets to hold the bumper... I just don't want to fry anything on the truck because these things are so sensitive..

Looks good so far. I used 3/16" plate and it's plenty thick. Pretty beefy bumper.
I see your concern about the electronics of the truck, i'd just disconnect the batteries. I never even did, but the only welding i did on the truck was tacking the whole bumper together and then removed it and just welded the whole thing on the inside and outside away from the truck.
As far as the welding and battery issue goes, as said, put the ground close to the welding point and it shouldn't go anywhere else. If it does, a buddy once said... a battery is there to hold/store power... all the other components aren't.
