Fuel level warning light coming on with full tank

I tried searching forum for this problem but haven't found it.

My fuel level warning light is coming on when I have a full tank of fuel. Sometimes the warning tone will go off along when it goes on, but not every time. Will not stay on constantly, but go off after a while and them come on later. Does not seem to be any pattern.

Service manual I have does not differentiate between gauge and light.

Help appreciated.

posible shorted sending unit, rubbed wires, bad gauge, bad gauge controller (don't know if these trucks have these). that all i can think of.
