You need the offset pipe as well. Your stock muffler has an offset inlet and outlet, and the Aero is straight. There is a drop down option on the Parley's website for the offset pipe.

Mine should be here (4040XL) in the next day or two-I also ordered from Parley's. I may add-can't beat their price either ! My truck is currently straight pipe-no cat/muff delete-I'm wondering if I'll need anything else to get the job done....guess I'll find out when it gets here.

Shup1.....
I love the sound of mine. Performance wise, there is no gain or anything that I can tell. Supposidly there is supposed to be an MPG gain. After one tank, I jumped .8 MPG. But that is only one tank. Take it for what it's worth.

Red1.....
The inlet side of my 4040XL didn't fit over the 4" pipe, but the outlet did. So what I did (since I'm too cheap to pay expensive Hawaii shop rates) was I went to Napa and got a 4" strap clamp and used that. It was like $15. It's not 100% sealed but it's way cheaper than paying some one to do it.

i have an 05 no cat and 4040xl in mostly stock location with little to no drone at highways speeds. I am very happy with it.

That being said I think that drone also has alot to do with where the muffler is mounted. if its under the cab you'll get more drone than next to the rear axle. Aero recommends at least 12" past the outlet before any bends in pipe for best profomance/mpg.

I like mine, people deffinately know when I am taking off but at normal cruising speeds they don't pay much attention to it driving or passing them.

So Bigrok...what are your thoughts on the 4040XL? Does it have the drone you feared or is it just right? Also what was the reason for the non fit over inlet side? I thought these were setup to bolt right into current o.d.? Just curious since I am waiting to order and install during my p.m. next month

Thanks

Just installed my 4040xl. Obviously on the 03's and early 04's, some fab work has to be done to get them in since our stock pipes are only 3.5" to the muffler and 4" muffler back. If it helps anyone, I ended up getting 2 45* bend 3.5" Elbows and a 4"->3.5" adapter. Had to shorten the elbows a little bit with my chop saw, but it ended up working perfectly to account for the higher outlet of the factory muffler. (I added the rise before the muffler instead of after)

For what its worth, it has a great sound, almost not even noticible at highway speeds unloaded @ 70, in those conditions its stock levels in the cab. However, it is pretty loud from about 45-55, but I could hear my stock exhaust drone a little @ those speeds too(right as the TC locks up and RPM drop to around 1500). Its not annoying by any means, it sounds great.

I'm very happy with mine. I didn't want an obnoxious exhaust and this definitely isn't obnoxious. I'd even venture to say the 01 1500 I used to own with a 360, high flow cat and Flowmaster 50 is louder (in cab) at highway speeds. On accel, the 4040 has it beat though for noise levels. (I know its apples to oranges, but it might help someone whos familiar with gas engines understand)

I absolutely love the way it sounds. It has a very slight drone around that 1300-1500 RPM range when the converter is locked but it's hardly ever in that range. At highway speeds (60+), it sounds almost stock in the cab. I don't know why the inlet didn't fit. I would of asked questions but I didn't want to send it back since it took me a while to get it. I would highly recommend it.

Have had 4040xl for about 8 months. Difference in drone if cat removed. Had about 4 months before removing cat. No difference at highway speed, but more drone while accellerating with cat off. However, removal of cat made greatest difference in seat of the pants feel.
