I run the aero4040 (non resonated) in the stock position and have no problem with drone whatsoever but I still have the cat. my guess it would be pretty loud without the cat. i love the sound of it

For now, my cat is staying on. At least until I get back to MN where we don't have any inspections or emmision tests.

I have the 4040 XL on my 06 Mega with the auto. Absolutely love it. The perfect combo of bark when you jump on it without any of the drone at highway speed, even with slight tip-in of the throttle to accelerate on the freeway. I still have the cat and the Aero was mounted just ahead of the rear axle (i.e., back of the stock muffler position). Sounds similar to the video but better, as the sound was poor on that clip. At an idle and while coasting, it is slightly louder than stock and much deeper, but nothing that will annoy neighbors. I coupled mine with an S&B CAI kit and saw a noticable gain in performance. I am also getting about 1-2 mpg better, although that would probably improve if I could keep my foot out of it...

I emailed Aero to see when I should be getting my muffler. He said they won't get their container in until June 30th. Then they will be shipping out mufflers. So I won't be getting mine until the middle of July. I was originally told I'd have it the end of May. I ordered it on May 10. That's rediculous.

Cancel the order with aero-turbine direct and go to Diesel Performance Parts | Parleys Diesel Performance.com. The aeroturbine page has a list (near the bottom) of current in-stock models. Just checked and it showed that the 4040XL was in stock. 173.55 for the muffler and until June 10th free shipping plus 10% off. They also sell an s-pipe to account for the offset in the stock muffler.

I also found one on Ebay, but Parley's is a better deal. I'm sure it's not free shipping to Hawaii, but the 10% off always helps.

I have an 04.5 6 spd manual and it was str8 piped when I got it. It was rather annoying in the cab. And outside you got that (paper flapin in the wind sound). I cant really find the words to describe it, but im not a fan. Put the 4040 XL and it is still pretty loud in the cab. Not really any drone, just louder than I had expected. And outside it sounds much deeper and more solid than a str8 pipe. However, I still get that annoying sound when ur rpms get up. I hate that popppy sound!!

I have a buddy with an 05 6 spd manual that we put the 4040 XL on and he still has the cat and his truck sounds GREAT. I would leave the cat. So Good luck and hope you enjoy.
