Hey my dad is looking to by his first diesel truck I told him to get an 06-07 5.9 as he wants something newer and maintenance free, looking at doing a cold air intake, aftermarket exhaust and a fuel milage tuner of somesort, probably go with one size bigger than stock for tires (285's). What kind of fuel milage should He be expecting to get as this is one of his concerns, I was thinking like 25mpg cruising at 110 km/hr (65mph) down the highway. Is this correct, or what have you guys seen from your experience. Just want to have the correct info thats all, thanks.
The best I ever really get on the interstate rolling 75 mph and being nice to it is 17 mpg, hand calculated. Others have gotten better, my truck has always been thirsty.
mine is bone stock and the overhead says im getting 18 and i think its pretty close to being right but i havnet confirmed it yet i have a 06 2wd auto 3.73 gears im a light foot and a cruise controle guy
Well I'll be honest I just bought my truck bout 800 miles ago and it's just bout ready to turn over 13k and most will say that these cummins get broke in around 40k. I've checked the milage twice by hand and got 14 once and 12.5 the other time but mostly small town driving and i've had my foot in it a fair amount. And will also say both times the digital mpg calculator has been off 2-3mpg. Mine is bone stock and is an early 07 quad cab with the 5.9L in it.
Just so you know....Doubt you'll ever hardly break 20mpg
18-19 at the pump with my mods! Dont waste money on exhaust, just decat and demuffler the stock 4 inch.

I've got an 05 4x4 with 285/70/17 Wrangler MT/R's, a S&B CAI, and a Smarty on SW3. I got 19 mpg on one all freeway tank. I usually get about 15.5-17 with stop and go mixed in. With the Smarty and no CAI I was regularly getting 14.5-15.
This is all hand calculated. My overhead always reads between 18.3 and 18.9 regardless of what my hand calculations say.
I have an 06 4x4 with 315s and leveling kit. it gets around 22ish average mostly highway driving light foot. before leveling kit and tries running stock it would run around 25 mpg. I've had 7 dodges 5 of them 5.9s and this one seems to be the best. the others were around 18 or 19 on highway with stock tires and no lift at all. this truck does have a full replacment front bumper if that matters and 115k
i get round 20 constanly if i'm not pullin trailers. thats combined H/C drivin and smty jr on tow. and i evn role some coal when some one bugs me.
