Hood Liner

Dumb question but has anyone removed the hood liner on there truck, is it painted under it, does the hood get to hot without it?

Thanks, Matt

It is painted under it. Took mine off the stock hood tonight and transfered it to my new SRT hood.

As for getting to hot, not sure, but I'm sure it will get hotter than would be desireable. There any reason you want it gone?

I took mine off over two years ago. It got cut and pulled loose so I just took it off and threw it away. I doubt the hood is going to get that much hotter without it. Driving the air flow will cool it. Sun will make it hotter, at least in south Texas. I have yet to find it shown in a Service Manual. It might be there, but I looked and did not find any reference to it.

I don't think the 03 and early 04s had one to start with. 3rd gens from 04.5 and up is where I see them. I suspect it was as much noise suppressor as heat shield. And if it is a heat shield I would rather the heat get transfered out and not kept in the engine compartment.

I heard on the older years, there was a paint issue from the heat. I read this a while back when i had my 01. Anyone relate to this?

Let us know how she turns out..

Well my hood inside paint has not discolored and the engine has been pretty hot a number of times both Engine temp and EGTs. You have to realize there is a plastic underhood lamp under there. If that plastic doesn't discolor from the heat right above the exhaust manifold and turbo then the paint on the hood should not.

He does have a point. I wander if gassers have more of a heat issue?
