I've read that 315s might rub on the control arm, but i just put a set on w/ helo 17s and the tire is rubbing on the bottom rear of the fender sheetmetal.
it's worse on the passenger side.
04 CTD w/ 2" leveling kit and don thuren trackbar.
it sounds like the wheel has the wrong back spacing for the truck I am running a set of 17x9 eagle alloys with pro comp xterrain and no rub at all with a leveling kit
As mentioned above, there is not enough backspacing on those rims for our trucks. People who are rubbing the control arms are mounting these tires on the stock rims that have a lot of backspacing. The trick is to find something in the middle.

I'm a little confused by this post. Am I to understand that I will more than likely have rubbing issues with the stock rims and 315's? I thought the leveling kit would make 315's possible on the stockers with no rubbing.

Sorry about that - I wasn't clear. Some have had rubbing issues at stock height with 315's and stock wheels, it has depended how the truck is equipped (hemi vs diesel, snow plow prep, production tolerances, etc). You will most likely be fine with 315's, level kit, and stock wheels.
Thanks a lot for the clarification Eric. I was beginning to get worried! lol

I have 315's on stock rims without a leveling kit and I just barely rub anything at full lock, by the time the tires are down to 80% theres no rub at all.:thumbsup
You might want to check the sheetmetal where it's rubbing. It's usually a sharp, tab-like edge that can be trimmed with a cutting tool or some good tin snips. I thought about trimming that part on my truck but haven't had any rubbing issues other than the control arms, but my truck has the snow plow prep option. If I HAD to trim that little edge, I'd trim it back a bit and then maybe get some spray undercoating (Pep Boys, NAPA, etc) and mask off a bit around the piece you trim and shoot it so that you keep things rust free. I don't know how much rubbing you have going on but I wouldn't think it would take too much trimming to get it to clear ok. Is it like you can't turn the wheel or is it just a mild rubbing when turning sharp?
