Dollars to donut spares, the recirc door fell off and is covering the fan blades. It's three screws to yank the blower motor, and there's plenty of good posts in the archives for how to remove the broken door and fix the problem.....

I'm getting an occasional fan noise from mine, too. It sounds like you described. Bearing noise, or kind of like a screeching howl from the blower fan. I turned off the A/C (snowflake button), and still had the noise. Tried changing the fan speed, but it stays at all levels. I checked the recirc door, and surprisingly it is perfectly in place (maybe previous owner already repaired)?. When I shut the blower fan off, obviously the noise goes away. Usually if I wait a few seconds and turn the fan back on, it is fine. Wondering if this is a warning sign that I can repair now, instead of suffering w/ no A/C or no defrost. Thanks,
Pull the blower out as mentioned above and inspect it. It should spin freely with no noise. Its easy to replace, takes only a minute. You'll spend more time at work making the money to buy it

spins freely. turned on at different fan positions. no problem. It only does it intermittently, so I'm having a hard time reproducing it...
I just had to replace the blower motor in my 2006 on Monday. From looking online, there are at least four different manufacturers making replacement blower motors, and Autozone even keeps them on the shelf at our local store. Must be a common failure.
The symptoms on my truck were the blower occasionally not working when I turned the key on, which was fixable by hitting the motor with my hand. Over the next few weeks, the lower two fan settings didn't move any air to mention, and Sunday was the last straw when full speed was barely blowing like the slowest setting on a long drive home. I pulled the motor out and turned on the key with the fan laying on the floor plugged in. It barely turned, and then stopped after a few seconds on full speed, and needed to be spun by hand to get it moving again. I didn't feel any play in the bearings, and the impeller spun with no apparent binding. The only thing that I can think of is that one of the brushes went bad, since it didn't blow any fuses when it stopped turning.
Long story short, the replacement part is available online starting at around $40, and can be found locally for under $100. It's nice having the low speeds back on my air conditioning.....
