I'm getting ready to do a long bed conversion on my truck. I picked up a long bed frame to do the conversion. I don't want to cut the factory frame and extend it.
Does anyone know if my short bed fuel tank will work or if I need to pick up a long bed tank?
Also, is that a better way to extend the wiring other than splicing it?
the long bed frame won't work... when you put the longer cab of the mega cab on the frame the bed won't fit... look at the wheel base of your existing mega cab truck and the wheel base of a long bed... There is a company in UT who used to do this using your existing truck.. I've seen several conversions and they do a really nice job... you might check the TDR threads for several threads on this....
Planning on splicing the two frames together. Not just moving everything over. The measurements look good right now. Shouldn't be too bad of a conversion.
I just don't know about the fuel tank and the wiring yet.
Sorry, didn't understand your thought... that might work... the trucks I've seen had the wiring harness lengthened... soldered and heat shrink tubing with adhesive in the tubing so its a water proof connection.... delcity.net is a good supplier...
The fuel tanks I can't help you with... I don't remember what they had... We installed PacBrakes on both trucks and I crawled under them for a look... very, very, clean and professional on the ones I looked at...
I would think you would want to use the long bed tank. If for no other reason you would get more fuel capacity. 28 vs 35 if I have the mega cab numbers correct.
You have to cut the frame and extend it to do the mega cab long bed conversion properly. Even if you are splicing 2 like frames together, cutting is going to be involved. Mega cabs and quad cab long beds share the exact same frame and wheelbase, the mega has passenger space where the first about 2 feet of bed are on the QCLB, with a short bed on the back of it.
The tanks are slightly different if you are looking to keep everything as close to stock as possible. First picture is of a short bed fuel tank. The fuel inlet is near the back of the tank. The second is the long bed fuel tank, fuel inlet near the middle.
I would assume you can use your stock tank. I believe thats what the company that does these conversions does. Also, I believe that company also sells a kit to lengthen the frame.
I do have a money tree you can buy. I actually have a farm of money trees, I grow them and reproduce them. I keep it very secluded, but i can meet you wherever you want. The cost for a full grown tree is pretty high are they are pretty priceless, but i can sell you packs of seeds for about 500 dollars per 10 pack. Inquire within.
