I build custom hunting rigs for a living and a truck i built last year is having charging issues. Truck has 8 batteries and a mean green alternator. With the all the electronics on the alternator can keep up. Does anyone make a dual alternator bracket.
Heres a pic of the truck 2004.5 dodge ram. Electronic roof, sat tv, 40in led tv, sat navigation, wet bar with running water, skeet thrower on the front, 7 vision x led lightbars, on board air, 20 gallons on board water, 2 15k winchs. etc guys rich
Has it keeped up in the past?
are all of the power and ground connections clean?
It can be a yearly event.
I'm sure you have up graded your charging wiring too?
maybe adding a small rv lp 110v generator to the set up is called for?
but a dual alt set up is also nice....
but your still going to have to keep an eye on all the bats and connections.
No its never kept up. Everything is professional wired as it soon. Problem is even if i watch the gauges and everything the owner wont. I just built the damn thing the guy that owns it is clueless so im trying to make it simple enough for him.
You need to look at your load... and your connections.... I bet you've got a problem with your connections.... have you ran a spread sheet on the accessories and max amp draw...
Just wanna say that rig is awesome, I love the idea of the clay thrower! Im thinking dual alternators is the best way to go as said above, good luck!
Have you put a amp clamp on it to see how much it is actually pulling whene under full load there use to be a company that made 5000watt generators that bolt right on to the engine
I use a mechman alternator, but there are competitors out there. The mechman elite is good for 370amps. Other competition stereo alternator types have other products.
I'm wondering if you have looked at the power generation chart for the alternator? Throwing this out there... is it possible the engine RPM is too low to allow that alternator to generate the required power???
Having dealt with a similar situation on a truck with a slide in camper, I will just save you the headaches I went through. Get a small Honda generator and an inverter/charger. After trying all the other wizzbang gadgets, I wish I would have done this first.
