Hey guys,
My truck lost power steering a few weeks ago. I was doing a 3 point turn on a hill when it gave out on me. I drove home and found the fluid to be low. I filled it up but still no power steering. At this point I thought I may have sucked air into the lines so I did a full bleed.
Now the power steering works only when I rev the engine. If I want to make a turn from a stop or at slow speed I have to push the clutch in and rev the engine to get the power steering to work.
This would seem to indicate my pump is going bad on me. There are no leaks that I have found so it must be something internal in the pump has gone out.
Which brings me to my issue. When I check the dodge parts catalog for a new pump it gives me a price of $162 for a new pump, but doesn't say if it includes a pulley and reservoir or not. If I call a dodge dealer they tell me over $800 for the new and improved setup. I have found the new and improved setup online for closer to $550. Or there are the reman pumps from Napa or O'Reilly for $100.
So which pump do I get? It seems any feedback I can find on here says the remans don't last very long. I haven't found anything about the oem part for $162 but all the mopar part websites say that is the pump for my truck. There are some posts about the $600 option, apparently it is the beefed up version from the 2007.5 trucks and comes with a pulley and reservoir.
I don't necessarily want to throw $600 at a fricken power steering pump, but I also don't want to be changing the thing every 6 months. Will I be okay with a reman or a new Cardone for $110? Should I buy the $160 version from Dodge? Or do I have to drop the $600 to get something reliable?
Thanks!
