So the old girl is gonna need ball joints in the relative near future after 200+k miles. I want something that is servicable and greaseable, the current ones on the truck are "greasable" meaning i can get to the fitting on the top one but well the bottom joint has a straight fitting on it and well the axles are kinda in the way of getting to that one. I know Carli has their bottom ones on an angle so that they are actually accessible. I am not sure about Dynatrac however, so does anyone have and run Dynatrac that can tell me? Honestly I like the price of the Dynatrac over the Carli lol But actually want to be able to grease them also... help me out guys
yes they are greaseable. and yes they are superb ball joints but if I'm going to go all out and buy awesome ball joints Im spending the extra 150 for carlis. that was my mentality, from what I've read on several sites everyone said go for carlis. I'm sure either one will meet your expectations.
Grease or no grease, the Dynas use a bearing in the upper ball joint and a bearing will eventually wear out (not to say it'll happen quickly, i know people have great luck with them). We run 2 hardened chromoly races with no bearing so there is nothing to wear out; thus, our lifetime advanced replacement guarantee. They're far more expensive to build than any joint on the market which tells you why our cost is what it is but they'll look a whole lot cheaper when it comes time to rebuild the dynas... $200 for the rebuild kit and $450 for labor and you're paying for the ball joints all over again.
No, our joints are technically rebuild-able but if any play ever develops we will send you a brand new set as the pins are matched to the cups to unsure the races are compatible in-house.
There is a reason Dynatrac makes a rebuild kit and Carli doesn't. I'm sure the Dynatrac's are great but why skimp when you can have the best for a few more bucks.
The way I look at it is that all ball joints will wear out, carli and dyna included. From what I have been reading on the forums it seems that a bunch of carli's have been sent in for warranty reasons already and a bunch of rebuild kits have been sold for the dynatrac. So they are not bullet proof as everyone says..
Now im not trying to bash any company but if you look at it they way I am. You will always be messing with ball joints on these trucks no mater how cheap or expensive you go.. So its pretty much what YOU want to spend.. Just stay away from moogs and splined ball joints...
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but if you mess up Carli ball joints you need pay a "core charge" then they send you a new one, you press your old one out and send it back to them for inspection. If they determine that the failure is on you then you don't get your money back... That's just to risky for me.
For dynatrac you buy the rebuild kit and rebuild you ball joints with out having to press the ball joint out. There is no back and fourth shipping, no warranty to deal with..
Other brands are cheap so press is out ,throw away ,press new one in and repeat in 6 months to a year..

Incorrect on both accounts. Our ball joints never wear out. In order to wear, there must be one wear surface harder than the other; in our joints, it's hardened chromoly on hardened chromoly. The only warranty sets ever replaced have been because of bad coating (very early ball joints), Allen head screws or O-rings, NEVER a wear issue. A "bunch" is subjective. I have 48 documented warranties with thousands of ball joints in circulation since 2009. The majority of the ball joints that have failed were from 2009-2010 with a Black coating that was found to be defective and they've nearly all been replaced.
We do require a credit card number on our RMA form as we're blindly replacing your ball joints at our expense in advance of you sending your old ones in. If we do not receive the ball joints back, should we not have the right to charge the customer as the failure was never verified? We have yet to have this happen and have not had to charge any customers for non-receipt or sending in good ball joints. As a company, we still need to cover ourselves from bleeding out on improperly diagnosed products.
Thanks for the clarification, OCVeloMan!
I will add this to those (myself included) that question warranty's & rebuilds on balljoints and having to replace them...
I'm at 172,000+ miles on my Ram. Stock Balljoints. ONLY reason I'm looking at a replacement for these is because I'm just now at the "ragged edge" of Out Of Spec on the uppers and a recent hit to the driver fornt wheel in an accident has that upper joint worse. So, I'm gonna try to get the Carli's installed, but would have considered Dynatracs in a moment. $150 is a $150. And for the mileage I'd get from OEM, I doubt I'll have the truck by the time the Dynatracs needed rebuilt in the first place...?
Again, I'd get Carli's, but they'll either outlast my Ram, or my ownership of it? Or make the dealership cringe at the idea of footing the bill for Carli's..? :confused013:
Just saying if you make it to rebuild time for EITHER of these fine products, you REALLY love your Dodge!!! Otherwise, I'd go with what I can afford.
OK. But does it matter? It's 2014! Those are still impressive numbers given the number of ball joints they have to have sold over this period of time. I'm still sold no matter how you slice it.
Glad you corrected me. For the record, I have nothing bad to say about the Dynatrac ball joints. They would be my second choice to the Carli's. In fact I'm getting ready to install a Dynatrac free spin kit with the Dynaloc hubs. The discussion on the rebuild issue and the warranty record just made my decision.
I got my dynatracs from 8 lug truck gear he said he's sold tons of dynatracs and carli joints. I went with the dynatracs due to being rebuildable in the axle and I don't want to press them out and in again. Not dissing carli they make great products, but George said he hasn't had to sell a dynatrac rebuild kit yet at the time of my order. I jack my front end up turn the whole to one side and use a long straight needle end for my ball joints. Kind of a pain, but it seems to be the only fitting that fits in there. Kay need to look into a small 90* needle end.
I put Carli's in my truck last fall and I absolutely love them. All you need to do is hold a set in your hands and you'll instantly realize you just bought the best ball joints money can buy for your rig. 800 isnt even bad living in Canada they cost me 1100 I'd still reccomend them to anyone even at 1100. Just get Carli's and never look back
$1100 for Carli ball joints? Is the exchange rate that far off? When we send them up there, we only charge $800 U.S., I wasn't aware that there was that much of a hike when they cross the border. I know there can be a little tax or whatnot, but not that much!
Yes its obscene to get stuff across the border. Especially if you only ship with UPS. a piece of advice if you ship to Canada and only ship with UPS its time to get another shipper or use USPS as well. UPS charges criminal amounts for a brokerage fee to brings things across the border.....cash on delivery could easily be 400$ on 800$ set of ball joints. Plus there is still taxes and duties on top of that. So all us vendors do us Canadians a favour and adopt another shipper because UPS IS JOKE CROSS BORDER. Rant over!
