I don't know if this is still a relevant thread, but I used to work in a high perf. trans. shop, and the Black lube guard bottle was a friction modifier that Chrysler required in all of their transmissions, and the red bottle was what we put in all of the other transmissions. (Ford and GM) The friction modifier had something to do with how the transmission applied the clutches, and if you didn't put it in there, it would prematurely burn up. I don't know if that has changed, since it has been about 8 years since I quit building transmissions for a living and all that I do now is build racing 700R4's.
