HID's actually run hotter, but use less wattage.... i.e. your heating up gas instead of lighting a filament.... i thought the same thing... but less power doesn't necessarily mean less heat.... halogen and High Intensity Discharge produce their light in totally different aspects..... and i have had no problems with just the "bolt in" kit.... comes with bulbs and a Ballast/igniter.... plug your factory headlight plug into the ballast.... then plug the new gasbulb into the ballast....
