Think I'll jump in. I have nearly 30k on my homemade wvo system. I know my signature says 15K but I haven't updated it for awhile. I recently replaced my VP44. I took my IP apart and found the timing piston stuck. I remember when the engine lost power. On a few occasions I had run my IP down to zero pounds for a few seconds.(Yeah, I know, the fuel cools the pump.) The reservoir in the IP holds a couple cups of fuel so I know at zero there was significant heat and lack of lubrication. I think I had about 10K on the wvo system and a total of 65K, when the horsepower dropped. I used to filter rather sloppily, but now I filter down to 2 micron and as you can imagine the fuel is clean. I don't believe you can clean the fuel too much. I changed my injectors to the RV275's when I changed the IP and what a great difference. More power, but even more noticable was the smoothness increase and about 2 mpg better. The stock injectors were clean. Number 6 had a little carbon on it, but none around the nozzle. I would put them right back in the engine if I had to. I moved my campaign lift pump back near the tank on the frame rail along time ago and occasionally I unhook the suction side and blow out the suction straw in the tank. I monitor my fuel pressure very closely and never let it get below 7 or 8 pounds. When I come to a steep hill when towing my 10K fiver, I switch back to dino because of the increase in power is about 10 to 15%. Also, I like to work the engine hard with dino to keep any possibility of carbon build up away. I use MMO/Power whatever-it-is about every other fill up or so. Any of you who run wvo have noticed a real reduction in noise. My theory is that the wvo has to compress more to fire because of the lower BTU content and you lose the pre-ignition rattle we all know so well. I hope this helps some. Remember, its only nuts and bolts. Git'er done.
