i have a 98.5 24 valve and it has a fuel leak if it sits for an hour you can see a bit hanging off the bell housing but absolutly everything is dry?
i didnt have a leak untill the other day after an injector line blew off so i replaced #6 line..... all hoses are dry but if i drive the truck to work or home which is 18km and open the hood it is full of smoke from fuel leaking down somewhere but once again no leaks
Fuel does not sweat. You got a leak. Since you were back in never never land lately.
Look at banjo bolt on REAR of head. Look at three way return line fiting behind LP. Look at all fittings and line in that area. Something is damaged or loose. How about #6 line since it is so easy to properlly tighten. My internet eyes can't quite make it out. Maybe if you raised the hood in broad daylight on a South bound interstate I could do better. HaHa
i have checked every fitting includin the banjo on the rear all t fittings and all injector lines i have the hood up everynight afer work looking and looking for the prolem i am just curious if there is something i dont know could a injector be leaking externally is there any other possibilities?
Hey bull rider, I have a similar problem with my 2002 truck . I have a fuel leak on top of the engine, and I have tightened the connections at the 3 way fitting and the fitting at the back of the head with no results. I wonder if the leak could be coming from top of the intake manifold since it seems to leak only high speeds. Still scratching my head over this one. Open to any ideas.
Oh, It could be dribbling straight out of the sky.
Reread post # 2. Get in there with a flash light. Get under the truck. Get on top of the truck. You are SURE it is diesel fuel. Not water, PS fluid, condensate leak from AC.
Injector leak would be from combustion leak at bottom of injector, or leak into crankcase, or leak at line fitting, or connector leak at line fitting. LOOK LOOK LOOK>>
once again i have a hoist it has been up on it everynight looking for it i have preassureized fuel system and even goe as far as puuting dye in it and used a black light and still cant see anything
Use baby powder that stuff does wonders on detecting a fuel leak. Just spread it wherever you believe the leak to be coming from. That is how I found the leak on my 99
Edit: Of course make sure you try to remove any fuel or whatever is leaking residue
If your injector tube is leaking it will come out through the fitting on the head... I had a fuel leak on my 99 after I changed the fuel filter. It was where the 2 wires go into the top of the fuel filter canister.
At the top, where the two wires go in there is a rubber grommet sealed by an o ring. but it leaked towards the firewall and unless i put my hand up there it looked like it was coming from the bottom....
Any idea on prices of much a new canister top costs? My 99 is doing the same thing, it is leaking where the wires enter the canister. I haven't checked O'Reilly yet but I will post the price when I find out.
The 99's are notorious for leaking at the fuel canister head. Those two wires you are talking about is for the heating element in the canister. That ruber gromet goes bad, and the best part is Dodge knows they had a problem with them. The dealer will just tell you to upgrade to the newer style canister, like $1200. Just go to a parts store and buy some RTV silacone and let the truck sit for a few hours to room temp. Then clean the canister head off with some brake parts cleaner with alcohol in it. Once its clean, take the silicone and spread it around the gromet and wires, let it set for a day and cure. You could also tear apart the canister head and put an o-ring in there. Or completely gut the stock canister and put a Fass fuel pump on with the dual filters. I did the o-ring the first time and it lasted about a year. The silicone has been on there for about 2 years and no leak yet. Depends on how much time and money you want to put into it.
I just replaced the valve that empties your fuel filter canister.... thats where mine was leaking... I am sure you have checked there.... climb up in your motor compartment and have the truck running and take a very bright flash light and go over everything....
There is a fitting on the back of the head that is known to leak and also on the driver side towards the back there is a spot where the lines come together that leaks also.
Does it start hard after sitting for a hour or so. My 98.5 had a fuel leak from #6 tube o-ring. Was hard to tell where it was coming from because it was leaking on the back side and would run down the back of the block and drip off of the bellhousing. Had to use a mirror to find it.
