The only time I wouldn't drive it with a check engine light is if it was flashing.

'97 3500 4x4 CC DRW, 4.10's, Banks PowerPack, BD torque converter and valve body, BD exhaust brake, 60# valve springs, Torqloc, gauges...

well i've made it to 5,500 miles and i have a cel... and the 8.4 is reading out -40 degrees in the outside temp display wonder if there's any connection???

I guess add me to the list truck has 1100 miles check engine light has been on twice also have a wierd tickin coming from the exhaust told the dealer they say "oh it's normal" and told the manager about the check engine light the first time and he asked if I made sure I had the fuel cap tight had to let him know about it being cap less which I still don't understand

The ticking is normal....def pump per the manual. There should have also been a placard noting this behavior in the truck.

Was he embarrassed after this? Because I'm feeling embarrassed for him...

In all seriousness...it is NOT POSSIBLE for Cummins and Chrysler to collectively test every single set of circumstances that every truck will experience and as all you know the new trucks are heavily loaded with technology to try and deliver performance and economy while still being clean. This will get fixed it will just take some time to flesh these things out

Oh man, I would have had some fun with him. I would have asked him to come out and show me exactly how tight that fuel cap had to be then watch the stupid look on his face when he found out they didn't have a cap. I like messing with idiots

yea I figured the tickin was some thing with the def pump or exhaust and yea should of let the manager walk out there like he new what the problem was would of been some funny sh$t and this is after I was buying a silver truck and got all the paperwork done went to the finance guy and seen it said black so had to wait another two weeks for a "silver" truck not to mention the problems I was having with my 12 cummins sorry about the long a$$ post and got a lil off topic

Maybe. My temp was reading 121 degrees on a 83 degree day, but no CEL. It slowly returned to normal over the day as I drove it.

CEL with P2459 popped up today on my way home from work tonight... just about 600 miles on the odometer; or about 635 after correcting for tires... cleared it and will drive it until it pops again and then take it in for the flash.

I had that regen frequency a while back. I would not worry about it.

I love my truck and I love my code reader.
