Painting valve cover

What are you all using to paint the plastic if valve cover? Going to start doing some cleaning up under the hood I think the rest like the turbo and intake horn I can get powder coated or can I do them with some high heat stuff? Can I use the high heat on plastic?

You can use high temp paint on plastic, no issues there.

Use the same paint for everything. A good paint job, whether rattle can or gun, is all in the prep.

OK wasn't sure if you could. But you're right for sure! Prep is key. Going to see if I can get a nice blue and try it on the cover. Should I use an adhesion promoter?

Guess you could. Most important on underhood parts is cleanliness, getting any grease, oil or chemical residue off.

But, you know that much.

Oh for sure. I'm going to do a really good clean on the engine bay tomorrow. Then let it dry and take the stuff off I want to paint. Then clean it again with acetone before spraying it.

Haven't really been a fan of the hydro dip. I guess I just like simple more solid colors. Nothing crazy. Not sure if you can even hydro dip just a solid color can you?

They can hydrodip just about any color or graphics you want, but it costs a LOT more than painting it yourself.

I finally got around to doing it as I had a bunch of other stuff to do on it the last couple days. Sanded. Used adhesion promoter and actually used caliper paint. Caliper paint is chemical resistant so I figured I'd have good luck with it. Also high heat so that's a plus. Seems to stick really well actually. Didn't go crazy with any detail wanted to see how long it lasts as is then possibly get a bunch of stuff powder coated the same color!

Need some contrasting color like silver, on the ribs and letters and red on the Cummins "C"...

For sure, wanted to do the lettering in white. As that's the color of my truck. Will likely do that tomorrow with a paint brush and then clear it
