4.10 Yukons Installed - chatter vibration from stop.

Just put in 4.10 gears from Yukon. Following 500 mile break in procedure. Taking it easy. Underway the gears feel good. But from a dead stop, especially if cold, I feel a vibration that I would describe as chattering/stuttering. It only lasts a few seconds from dead stop. After driving and warming up, does it less but still does it. Only from a stop. Forward or reverse. Seems to be coming from rear. Normal for new gears?

Who installed the gears? Was the back lash set up for .008" and engagement shimmed/set properly for the pinion? Extremely crucial this was done right or the gears can prematurely fail. I would have a drive line shop look at it that specializes in that. At the most only a couple hours labour and fluid.

It is also possible that the hub or diff bearings don't have proper adjustment.

I would assume jbt doesn't know the set up or install specs the install shop worked to get unless he was given a sheet. I would take it back to the shop and let them drive it, it's not normal.

Doesn't sound to me like a R&P gear issue, sounds like a differential issue.

What gear lube did you use when the gears were swapped?

Thanks for all the advice, I don't know the answers to the questions about measurement and type a oil, etc. The shop is not open on the weekends or I would've gone directly there. Planning to do so Monday morning, just hoping to get a bit of for him advice in the meantime. This information will be very helpful for me when I go back and talk to them, thank you! Keep it coming.

Could the lower gears have made the launch vibration from the two piece shaft more pronounced? All my two piece trucks including my current 15 3500 truck with Aisin have a launch vibe if there is more pedal pressure than the minimum needed to get going. Maybe the lower gears have made that known issue more pronounced.

sounds more like a driveline angle or U joint issue to me. Also if the pinion yoke is loose or with any play in the pinion bearings can cause this. Why it seems to change as things warm up is one I have not heard of but I am sure there is a reason for it possibly metal parts expanding and fluid thinning out as it warms up

Definitely not normal, I have to ask if the front & rear differential gears were replaced with 4:10s

Yes, front and rear replaced with 410 yukons

From a standing stop, I can put the truck in drive and not even apply gas. For the first two seconds or so, and the first 10 feet of movement, there is a shutter type vibration eminating from rear. It does not do this underway, and in any other gear. Only from a standing stop. In both first or in reverse.

If you are not applying throttle then it rules out my drive shaft theory.
