I'm thinking of getting the 2 low kit. It allows you to drive in 4X4 low, powering just the rear axle. Does this by disengaging the front sleeve electrically.
I'm thinking it could come in handy when moving a trailer, as in parking.
Any other uses?
If I get it, I was thinking of putting the button next to the 4X4 shift knob. Those that have it, where have you mounted the button?
I don't have this in my truck. But several years back I had a jeep that pretty much had the sane setup just with a cable.
It was pretty handy for tight trails that ya didn't really need 4WD but needed to go slow.
I think it would be real handy for trailer parking. Gonna look into this more myself.
I'm sure the free spin hubs would be great. But your looking at $1800 compared to $150.... not much of a comparison if all your wanting to do is be able to have 2wd low.
I made a kit for my 99. Removed the old CAD motor and used the shaft and end plate to attach a pull cable (Dorman locking pull cable). Best darn thing I've ever done. For some reason it seems to drive better in 4wd, so I'm guessing the old vacuum motor wasn't engaging all the way.
Is this front sleeve on the axle or transfer case?
I have seen pics of guys putting switches on the side of there center console. Above the little map pocket. There is a panel that will pop out to help with running wires. Planning on put some switches there for lights.
It's on the axle. It's the reason this kit is inexpensive and works. On 13 and down trucks you need a free spin kit because there is no axle disconnect until you go all the way back to a second gen truck. I was a tester for BD on this kit and it installs and woks as advertised.
Makes a huge difference. I routinely back a tilt box trailer with a 11k lb bobcat 334 in it up our driveway. No way I'd be able to do that without 2wd low. 2hi breaks the drivers loose almost instantly.
I have it, and love it. I also had the Yukon free spin kit on my '07.
However, I think the relays are screwed up on my unit. When activated, they buzz like crazy for about 5-6 seconds...loud! I need to replace the relays and see if that fixes it...if not, I'll call BD.

I swapped the relays around...no change. I replaced them with new relays...no change. So I called BD about the buzzing issue I had with my unit. We were all set to have me send the unit back for testing, until they emailed me and asked me to remove the blue wire from the switch.
Bingo! It turns out, there is a problem with the little bulb in the switch. They are sending me a new switch.
Maybe this will help anyone else who might have an issue...
I have a 16 megacab G56 and have it. It is a must have in my opinion with a G56. Works excellent...
As far as the button mounting... I haven't mounted mine yet. I'm going to add an additional relay and use one of my auxiliary switches to control it.
because..... as like you, I wanted to put it next to the 4wd knob. No room. Once you pull the cover off, you'll find the switch is HUGE and leaves no room to mount your switch. Would have looked awesome there. If you don't have an auxiliary switch panel, mount in where you can see it on the console somewhere. There is a red indicator on the switch that illuminates when it is active (not when the switch is active, when the truck finishes it's 4-low switch over).

I have it as well. Absolutely love it. When I'm backing the 2 car triple axle trailer, it makes the transition between front and rear tire pivot easily manageable.
I haven't mounted mine yet because I was looking for a part number for the access panel for the parking brake (panel right above the parking brake by your left knee). I found the panel part number (1WA33DX9AB) and it costs all of ~5 dollars to replace if you screw it up or want to go back to stock.
I don't use it as much as I thought I would. But that is because I haven't been driving in the city so much with the trailers lately. Once in the tight areas it becomes a godsend.
If you have the option of installing a 2 lo kit.....you wont be disappointed. I have one on my truck and its the cheapest and best add on I've done. Makes moving trailers around in tight or slow moving spaces easy and painless, especially if you have manual transmission.
Will this work on the trucks with the manual t case?I'm intrested if it will as I'm always using 4lo when backing the mixture of farm implements in different places
You are my hero! Haha. Thank you so much....guess my instructions that came with the kit are older as they don't show the AUX switch hookup. Cheers to you!
It is amazing how big the dash is but when you start pulling it apart you find stuff behind stuff and your mounting options become limited quickly. Here is where I put it, left side above the parking release. The panel pops out and there nothing behind it.
I just got this hooked up,I don't have the switch mounted yet.
I drove around the block in 1st and second,3rd gear may be useful on some dirt roads I drive as the speed is often right between 1st and 2nd,2WD.
Is the TC lock up programming the same in low range?
I finally got to try this out on a favorite dirt road,I like it.
This is my first diesel/auto trans truck,I missed a manual in the dirt, the low range switch in combination with the E brake works pretty good to scrub off a couple of MPH as you come to a bumpy section.
I wish the cubical dwellers at Ram would have tried to select low range with the manual transfer case lever while the power outlet was in use.
Installed this last week. Wired to one of the upfitter switches. Moved my 6.5K fith wheel today and it makes it so much easier, especially on loose gravel and a grade.
