DPF Filter - Warranty

Got my first CEL today, P244a - DPF Filter differential pressure too low. I have it scheduled to go in to the dealer on Wednesday. 66K on the odometer so I think I am screwed as far as warranty goes. Worst case scenario I need a new filter, any idea how much they run? I have been told over a $1K, if that's the case it may be wise to delete. This is my 3rd Cummins, never deleted one and drove the last 2 to 300,000+ miles. Is it worth it? Do I have to worry about emissions in NJ? Not sure what I would be getting myself in to. Thanks for the help in advance.

It's been explained to me that the DPF is covered as a catalyst. Basically anything that makes the exhaust coming from the engine cleaner is covered for 8/80,000.

I hope that is true, that would be great news.

BA14, let us know how it turns out.

Should be 8 year 80K miles

Oxidation Catalyst/Particulate Filter Assembly

I do believe the second part is the DPF. Could be the DPF or one of the sensors.

Will do, light went out on the ride home today. Maybe something froze up as it was -4 when it came on this morning. Who knows, still bringing it in on Wednesday.

I wouldn't do anything with it, most likely a short term issue, and that is why the light went out.

My understanding is the DPF is not considered catalyst, so is only covered to 50K.

But, they can usually be cleaned, so you don't necessarily have to replace it. And, as such, are considered "maintenance" items.

I replaced mine at 95k, was not covered(2012 3500). Cost for replacement was $1500+. Dealer stated it is not covered, it is a wear item essentially. I had thought they were covered to 100k, but actually thought it should last to about 200k considering how I use my truck. I was informed that it's common for them to go at 30-40k, which seems ridiculous to me. We are forced to have it but it's not covered to any reasonable time frame IMO, especially considering the cost of the parts. Oh, and no, it couldn't be cleaned either.
