Recall Alert 2013-2015 Cummins

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board have demanded a recall of 2013 through 2015 model year Ram 2500 pickup trucks with 6.7L Cummins diesel engines because moisture can lead to the deactivation of the selective catalyst reduction system, causing excess nitrogen oxide emissions, Cummins said in court documents that have not been previously reported.

I agree, what emissions do the 2500s have that we don't.

So, the question is, does this have to do with all the SCR replacements the dealers have been doing, and is the water in the system what is giving the bad DEF codes and warnings???

And does a FCA directed lawsuit, and the resulting cross-filing by Cummins spell the end of their collaboration??

Moisture in the system, really. Like the water that the DEF is made from that is injected into the system. The same system that is on all new diesels.

The change is going to drop fuel mileage from 14.6 to 14.4 mpg? Wonder how that is.

More post detonation injection of diesel fuel, similar to when the truck goes into regen, to heat up the exhaust more to prevent condensation in the system.

If it does negatively effect MPG by more then a "negligible" amount do we have any recourse? Any negative impact is just more money out of my pocket for many many years to come.

They are talking about additional aftertreatment of the exhaust causing the drop in mileage, so, I would guess it is an additional restriction in the exhaust causing the mileage drop.

My other question is, where did they come up with their 14.6 mileage number?

I wonder if the people that have had to pay out of pocket to fix it will get reimbursed.

Glad this popped up as I just started getting codes for the NOX sensors. I was planning to just delete, but I may hold off and save my warranty for a little bit longer if they're going to fix it under recall.
