I'm looking at a 2016 4th gen cummins for my next truck... any issues.. breakdown? cold starts etc?? looking into a cummins for my next truck... it will be used 25-30k miles a year... mostly highway miles and lots of towing miles 6500 pound travel trailer towed all over the state and sometimes to other states.
Had mine for a little over 13 months, done used my 5 free oil changes. Almost 41,000 on it. Some pesky fuel filter changes, lol, other than that its been GREAT
Bought new Dec. 2014- one oil change at about 3500 miles and just turned 5000 miles. I guess I'm due for another oil change as it's supposed to be at certain miles or every 6 mos., whatever comes first. Other than one puddle light and a couple of recalls, no problems so far.
27 months of ownership, 9,400 trouble free miles. done 2 oil changes, nothing else other than recalls. I guess my point is even though I just use it to tow occasionally even if you don't use them much they are still problem free :smile2:0

My 16 bought on new years day has just under 10,000. ...all put on in 4wks .. deleted at 500 mile mark ... couldn't be happier
My 11 had 45k ... traded
I have 6,000 miles on my truck and had zero emission issues. My 2012 had 27,000 and no issues with that truck as well. I keep the exhaust brake on when I drive and have no problems.
I live in omaha nebraska, and I'm on interstate 80 alot and I was seeing tons of rv haulers so I was like hey I'm going to do that, but I must have just missed the boat. I was bummed at first because getting my own insurance and authority is expensive, but after looking into hauling auto's it looks like there is lots more work and lots more profit due to having a trailer and hauling both ways. I've heard it's tough to get backhauls hauling travel trailers.
My commercial insurance is 1600 a month. Takes money to make money I guess. Aa soon as I get my trsiler I'll be hitting the road. I found a company that will do all my dispatching for me for 8% but they can keep me busy while I learn and later I'll take over my own dispatching.
All those extreme costs and headaches are the exact reason I won't ever be doing my own authority. I'd so much rather leave all that to an office full of people to handle all that crud and leave me out of it, life is stressful enough as it is.
And trying to dispatch yourself is an even bigger headache. Plus, you just about have to live on the road, and I am NOT doing that. Had my fill of being away from home for weeks at a time back when I drove 18 wheelers.
But, if all that works for you, more power to you.
I bought mine in November of 15. It had 7 miles when I bought her. I'm up to 7k now. No issues or any concerns here. I did have to take the truck for one of the car seat fasteners that attach to the rear bulkhead just fell off. But they fixed it within 20 minutes and I got to look around on the lot. Which is always dangerous! Anyway, great trucks !
Got my '14 on 3/15/15 and it had 538 miles when i drove it off the lot. I just turned 15,000 on my way home from work last night. Other than the 2 recalls I have had zero issues.
Hell, the only "maintenance" i have done is 2 oil changes and topping off the def tank twice.
My '03 had 285,000 on it when i traded it in on this beauty.
Just passed 30k while on vacation last week. 2013 3500 DRW. I got it is January with just over 23k on it. Been towing commercially a bit and 2600 mile family vacation. It's not my daily work driver.
