Yes you are right - you cannot do EGR delete without doing the DPF delete atleast what I understand. And without the deletes your DPF & CAT filters are going to be plugged often and you will get CEL messages and limp mode and shorter engine life and all that kind of stuff...
I have the H&S kit with the downpipe. I believe that's the way to go because it gets rid of the CAT filter in the downpipe as well. Almost all of the guys in the forum has the stage 2 I believe.
If I am not mistaken there is a post in the 6.7L articles section of the forum where you can actually make a DIY downpipe and delete kit. If you are good with things like that you can do it yourself, if you have tools for cutting etc. I assume. I haven't looked too much into it since I knew I wasn't going to be able to do it myself..
I think you still need a programmer to clear codes after the delete because it will throw a soft code. I don't know if H&S has worked this out - I got my kit a long time ago... and there have been many updates since then.
You can do all the install yourself. It will take couple of hours. No welding/drilling. Everything is bolt on. You may need an extra hand because the stock exhaust is so heavy and it is a pain to take the down pipe out...
I bought my truck 29K miles used... had to make a few trips to the dealer in the first couple of months, decided to do the deletes -now it is sitting at 55k miles and have not had any issues. Probably never going to see the dealer again...
