Running a truck with loow to ZERO fuel pressure is like running a engine with a dead oil pump. The only thing that lubricates the VP44 is fuel so if you don't have enough fuel pressure/volume that VP44 is metal to metal contact with all internal parts...
I agree... You won't know when the injection pump goes until it does. The only way to check it is to have it bench tested. And yes they are price around $1050.00 for a stock SO pump.
