Ahh yes!
When I popped that gasket I wasn't running a ton of timing. Really, for a street truck you don't need a ton of timing either. 17-18 is MORE than enough for street use. You'll run into lag issues as well as starting issues in the cold if you go much higher.
Being I have the tools, in the summer I'd set mine to 17, 15 in the winter. Dyno day, pull or Drag race, 18.5 or so was the sweet spot for mine. But it was laggy on the bottom end on the street.
