Why couldn't you J-hook your wastegate?
If you have a HY35 then yes you could.
You should see plenty more boost than your stock turbo will want with your setup once you get the wastegate right.
EDIT: I see you have a 99 model, which "should" have a HX35, so you would need a boost elbow, not a j - hook!
