another post on which turbo...

ok, this part of the long story, short.
got into truck cold, went hard on the hammer, did some of this and some of that... bye bye HG.

resurfaced head, dropped springs, studs, gasket and a waste gate on her.

replacing turbo/manifold here by august once i get more info and do more research into this, as im new. theres a lot of info on here, but threads seem to get off track fast.

im not looking for crazy numbers, maybe one day be in the 6's (hp, not the 1/4), but im wanting to do so with less smoke than what im seeing around. how might this be possible? seems ill be needing more fuel to get into that range, but with more air, should cut the smoke back? what are ppl running turbo wise with stock to little fuel that is keeping relative spool? what helps with spool...this pressure that pressure... help anyone?

also ppl with DP issues... after swapping turbos etc etc, has any one hooked up a dp gauge and seen the differences?

thank you for looking into and any info

To keep close to stock fueling i would go with a 3rd gen set up which consists of a aftermarket manifold and turbo. From what research i have done a silver bullet 66 seems to be about the size of turbo they should of sent stock for these trucks. It safe to say that 600 is achievable with the right tuning. I would recommend Efi live as a tuning options as it will just flat out make your truck run better. Ryan from suncoast Dave Mathews are great just to name a couple. Or purchase MCC and see what someone can do with that. There is so many viable options anymore its crazy. As far as dp after giving these trucks the correct sized turbo for the displacement it will be certain to see a drop in dp especially if your keeping stock fueling.

Id think a 66 on stock fuel would be laggy.

Not on a 6.7 and not with the right tuning if this give you any idea im running a 467/83/91 100 hp stick and efi live tuning and its darn close to stock spool. Elevation makes a difference to but even that can be mitigated by tuning and a little more fuel ie lift pump nozzles.

I just installed a SB 66 with a DPS 3rd gen manifold and ARP studs about 3000 miles ago and I love it. No lag at all and it helped clear up some smoke. I am only running a mini maxx, everything else fuel wise is stock. I have yet to hook up a DP gauge but the truck runs a lot better and cooler with this turbo and the install was simple.

There always has to be one 5.9 guy who thinks it will be laggy. You have to remember there is a lot more air moving on a 6.7.

I will be going with a S366/73/.91 T4 on a 3rd gen PDI manifold with Arson IV and stock injectors. Last but not least EFI Live by Dave Matthews

GOBLUE: you running 50% over injectors? hows it do on smoke, though i see ur tuning with efilive...

ill probably be sticking with my xrt for tuning unless its somehow more smokey, but it shouldnt bei take it with only adding more air, right? im a tad lost with size arrangements. i see them written as 66/71/14 and then theres 66/71/.91... inlet, impeller, ??. bigger the .XX the more air on exhaust side? im pretty new into this so bare with me a little please.

**heres where the thread will go off track. lol.
what are ppls thoughts on the arson kits? its basically allowing more fuel into and from the cp3? whats that doing to the stock injectors and how much harder with that be on them?

truck is dd that pulls 10k give or take a few k, 3x a week anywhere from 20-200 mile round trips... lots of hills, lots of 4wd.
ill be running lovefabs manifold. so that info im good on

Oh where to start , i tow a 15000lbs 5 th wheel and i have plenty of power 50% over are the injectors. I have a little puff of smoke if i mash it from a dead stop the turbo almost instantly cleans it up but keep in mind im at sea level and i have a larger housing turboo s400 class. I can imagine there higher elevations as to where you live and in my opinion if your wanting to stay with stock fueling and dont want the lag i would stay with a s300 housing turbo. With efi live they can write custom tunes for your truck tell them what your doing and what you want and they can do it for you up to mechanical limitations. As for thr cp3 upgrades someone may be able to chime in on brands but i believe a stock cp3 is good foor 550-600 hp.
